Energy label

The energy label is a form of consumer package that summarizes the characteristics of a product, especially its energy performance, to facilitate the choice between different models.
Energy efficiency of the device is evaluated in terms of energy efficiency classes A + + rated G. Class A + + performance is optimal, G the least efficient. However all types of device does not yet contain the classes A + and A ++.
Introduced in 1992 for most appliances, the principle has since been extended to other areas such as automotive and real estate to enable consumers to more easily compare the environmental performance of product and encourage them to turn to more fuel-efficient.
Following the Council Directive 92 ⁄ 75 ⁄ EEC of 22 September 1992, most appliances, light bulbs must have an energy label.
The arrangements by type of device are described in a set of guidelines from the Commission :

Under the EUP (Energy Using Products), the European Commission has decided the establishment in 2011 of a new energy label. This will be common to 27 countries of the European Union, more readable through the use of easily identifiable logos, and introducing the classes A +, A + and A ++++.
Article 9, paragraphs 1 and 2 of the directive on energy labeling 2010 ⁄ 30 ⁄ UE9 should be amended by a future directive.

Appliances

Label
The energy labels include at least four parts:
references of the device: in this part, is precise references to the device model and manufacturer.
energy class: a color code associated with a letter (A ++ to G) that gives an idea of the energy consumption of an appliance.
consumption, efficiency, capacity, etc.: this part includes various information depending on the type of device.
Noise: the noise emitted by the device is recorded in decibels.
Refrigerators, freezers and combinations
Here the scale of energy efficiency index, the index is calculated for each unit from its consumption and volume of compartments, taking into account the type of device. This index is not expressed in kWh.

For washing the scale of energy efficiency is calculated for a detergent on the idling cycle with 60°C and brought back to 1 kg of linen. The unit is thus kWh ⁄ kg of linge.

Above the class A, the manufacturers started to adopt as new class of use known as A+ class although no regulation frames this use. That corresponds most of the time to very effective apparatuses, with a variation of more than 10-15% with the apparatuses of class A (one finds there inter alia, of the exchanger apparatuses of temperature).

Fiability of the classes of washing and séchage
Comparative study of laboratories of tests allotting the classes of effectiveness to the dishwashers was carried out in 2009 in order to evaluate the repeatability and the reproducibility of the last version of the standard of test INTO 50242, going back to March 2008. According to this study, the results of the tests vary between the laboratories of the value of a class for energy consumption and three classes for the effectiveness of washing and that of séchage.

Household electric lamps

The classifies effectiveness is an index comparing the consumption of the lamp with a power of reference simple function of the luminous flow expressed in lumens (linear broken). It makes it possible to release the following classes:

Created in the United States by the Green Electronic Council, Epeat (tool for environmental evaluation of the electronic products) is a tool which makes it possible the companies to evaluate and to compare computer materials according to their characteristics écologiques.
(GEC)Database EPEAT includes products which were declared in conformity by their manufacturer with the environmental standard for the electronic products IEEE 1680-2006.

RoHS means restriction of the use of certain dangerous substances in electrical equipment and électroniques
Substances concerned are:
the plomb
the mercury
the cadmium
the chromium hexavalent

The concentrations maximum of these substances are of 0.1% per unit of weight of material homogeneous, except for cadmium where the limit is of 0,01%.

The programs 80plus aims at increasing the energy efficiency of the power supplies of materials informatiques.
Currently, most power supplies equipping the computers with the market do not exceed 60% of effectiveness. 40% of the electricity consumed by the PC are thus dissipated in the form of heat, which can involve requirements in air-conditioning. The weakness of this rate must mainly with voltage 110 and 220 volts which prevails on planet, making the food more general-purpose and thus less effective. To be certified 80plus, a power supply must deliver an effectiveness of 80%.

This label is based on criteria such as the ergonomics of the material, the emission of electromagnetic fields (screens), energy consumption, certification ISO 14001 of the manufacturer, the weak noise, the respect of the RoHS directive and the recyclability" of the matériels.
The beginning of the Nineties, with its éco-labels 1999 to 2006, the Swedish label attempted to cover the specification of the screens, the laptops, the desktops, the printers and also of the office furniture.Today, approximately 50% of the screens carry the TCO label. The labellized printers TCO offer a consumption in reduced energy, a noise level low and a greater facility of entretien.
Impetus by Google and Intel in 2007, this initiative is the fruit of the reflexion of a group with nonlucrative goal of users, companies and organisations conscious of the ecological challenge. Our objective is to promote the development, the propagation and the adoption of intelligent technologies which can at the same time improve the performances of the computers and reduce the power consumption when they are not used.As participants in this initiative, the computer makers and components are committed creating products which meet precise objectives as regards energy saving, and the companies begin to buy sparing computers in énergie.
The renewable energy sources have the characteristic to use natural flows and not stocks. Their environmental impact is generally weak but, by installing industrial activities in sometimes fragile mediums, they can generate harmful effects. For this reason environmental criteria were integrated into the label.
For example the hydraulic producers must guarantee an environmental good management of the power stations. The conditions of operating must be in conformity with the law. They must moreover be certified according to standard EMAS or ISO 14001.
Electricity resulting from the biomass must also answer certain criteria to be regarded as respectful of the environment. It should not be responsible for the cut of primary forests. Moreover, dedicated biomass, i.e. the cultures especially intended for energy uses, must prove that it is resulting from well managed forests. The combustion of waste resulting from the biomass must guarantee the absence of toxic treatments. Lastly, the incineration of not sorted waste is excluded from the field of the label.
Renewable energies and energy efficiency are essential tools of the fight against the climate change. Green electricity proposes with each consumer to develop renewable energies. But all the offers really do not allow it. Indeed, sometimes, the supplier can sell renewable electricity resulting from existing and shown a profit power stations. In this case, electricity would have been produced in any event, that a consumer subscribes to the green offer or not. The label requires green offers which allow a development of renewable energies. They must invest in the development of new power stations using renewable energies, to supply themselves directly near not subsidized power stations or to invest in energy efficiency. The EVE label thus brings a guarantee that the offer of green electricity involves a real development of renewable energies and that the act of consumption makes a difference.
The majority of the green offers cost more expensive than the standards offers. The consumer must then wonder what serves this overcost. Ideally, it makes it possible to develop renewable energies by investments in new power stations. It is also possible that this overcost serf to be supplied in green electricity not subsidized and thus more expensive. But in certain cases, it is only used to finance the traceability of electricity, but of anything the energy market does not develop renewable. It is essential, when the offers of green electricity post a overcost, to know the use of it and when there is no overcost. One can then wonder whether the offer of green electricity has any impact on the development of renewable energies. They can in fact of having some only as from the moment when voluntary demand is higher than. I.e. the consumers ask for such a quantity of green electricity that the producers are obliged to build new power stations to answer it. That cannot occur in short-term France. In the countries of Europe where the market is for a long time open, only one this level reached: Netherlands. While waiting for that occurs in France, it is necessary to require green offers which they present a additionnality i.e. it allow an improvement of what exists.
A WindMade label emphasizes, since October 2011, the companies having recourse to the electricity of wind origin. In 2012, the products will be able to also claim with this label. It is the organization WindMade, an association with nonlucrative goal aiming to the development of the wind energy, which gave life to this label éponyme. a label for the companies and organizations, reserved with those from which at least 25% of electricity consumption are resulting from wind energy. The share of other alternative energies in their consumption can also be communicated but it does not return counts some in obtaining the label. Two types of WindMade logo are thus delivered: one indicating the percentage of wind energy in the mix electric one and another retailer the various sources of renewable electricity, a label for the products, under development, which should be set up in 2012 in order to make it possible to the consumers to identify the products manufactured thanks to wind energy.
Create within the framework of the opening of the energy markets and launched by the national federation of the conceding communities and controls, the clear label energy is intended to the small consumers to help them to choose their supplier of electricity and gas. This label comes to supplement the many existing tools : EcoloWatt de GreenPeace. It will make it possible to distinguish the suppliers according to the practices from sale and not on the tariffs from sale. This mark labellise of the offers of supply of gas and electricity starting from two criteria: general terms of sale, information and transparencies and of the methods of respectful marketing of the consumer, practices of sales.

Ecoquartiers represent a considerable share of the French production of residences: the projects presented into 2011 concern thus more than 200.000 residences, including nearly 66.000 social housing. The creation of the Ecoquartier label completes the experimental phase of the step and inaugurates that of its consolidation and its development on the whole of the territory. Since January 20th, 2014, the European label EKOénergie is officially represented in France by Observ' ER What allows all the suppliers who wish it to offer to their consumers a product of renewable electricity which promotes at the same time the development of new renewable capacities and guarantees an excellent environmental insertion of the power stations supporting the offer.
